SALOME was the opening premiere for the Deutsches Nationaltheater - Weimar’s Opera season 2024-25. Under the direction by Friederike Blum, this classic Richard Strauss opera was re-imagined with inhuman depths of power, and the fantastical dreams of talking animals. Together with stage designer Heike Vollmer and costume designer Lauren Steel, they create a world and society as a pandemonium of human fate and history. Under the thin veneer of civilization, the team finds not only people surrounded by each other, but also the playful dimension of animals in the human world, between animal instincts and excessive longing.
